Sperm cells fertilize female eggs.

The average adult male produces about 290 million sperm cells a day.

Most of the time, males do not stop producing sperm cells.

A woman's ovaries produce egg cells.
8. Why do woman menstruate (have their periods)?
The uterus prepares for an egg cell to be fertilized by building a lining in the uterus. If the egg cell is not fertilized, the lining sheds out of the uterus and flows from the vagina.
9. What happens if the egg is not fertilized by sperm?
A woman begins to menstruate (have her period). The lining in her uterus has blood in it. The lining flows out of her vagina. She does not have a cut and she is not really bleeding.
10. On average, how long does it take from fertilization to the birth of a baby?
It takes between 9 and 10 months for a baby to be born after the egg cell is fertilized by the sperm cell.
11. What is menopause?
When the ovaries stops releasing eggs, menopause begins. Women stop menstruating (having their periods) and cannot become pregnant.
